The flow assistant
The AI chat tab on a flow page talks about this flow. It reads the flow as it is on your screen — unsaved edits included — and the run you are looking at, answers questions about both, and when you ask for a change it sends back a proposal: the whole new flow, drawn on the canvas for you to review. Nothing changes until you accept, and it never saves, publishes or runs anything.
- Ask about a flow and a run, and jump to the steps it names
- Review a proposal on the canvas and in its card
- Accept, reject or ask again — and undo an accepted change
- Start from a failed step with Fix with AI
Read-only, with proposals
Open the flow’s side panel and pick AI chat (“Ask about this flow, or ask for a change you review first.”). Type in Ask about this flow…. The assistant works from the flow on screen, the run shown on the canvas (with each step’s inputs and duration), and read-only lookups it makes on its own — other flows, runs and loop iterations, scripts, connections, e-mail templates, scrapers, and the names of variables. It never sees a variable’s value.
When an answer names a step, the name becomes a link: click it and the canvas selects and centres that step. The conversation is kept per flow while the page is open; New conversation starts over. It is never stored on the server.
Review a proposal
- Ask for the change
Describe it in plain words: “Retry the HTTP step three times and e-mail me when the flow fails.” The assistant reads what it needs and answers with a summary and a Proposal card.
- Look at the canvas
The canvas switches to the proposed flow, read-only, with the pill Reviewing a proposal at the top. Added steps carry a + mark, changed ones a pencil. Click any step to inspect it as proposed.
- Read the card
The card lists each change in words — Adds Notify team, Removes Old export, Renames A to B, Fetch prices: run settings (retry), Report · input to: from Start → email — and, for every script step whose code changes, a side-by-side diff (Current / Proposed). Problems the platform found in the proposed flow (a SQL step with no connection, an unknown variable) are listed too: the proposal is still shown, so you can see what is missing.
- Decide
Accept applies it, Reject discards it and the canvas returns to your flow.
What Accept does
Accept writes the whole proposal into the editor as unsaved edits — Applied as unsaved edits. Undo once to take it back. One undo (Ctrl+Z) restores exactly the flow you had, however many steps changed. Then you Save, test with Run Flow and Publish yourself, as with any edit.
A proposal’s states
| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Under review | On the canvas now, waiting for you. Only one proposal per flow is under review at a time. |
| Accepted | Applied as unsaved edits. |
| Rejected | Discarded; your flow was not touched. |
| Replaced | A newer proposal for the same flow took its place. |
| Out of date | The flow changed since you asked (The flow changed since this request.). Accept is disabled; Ask again repeats the request against the flow as it is now. |
Proposals can also come from elsewhere: when the project assistant or the Waiso Desk wants to change a flow you have open, the change arrives here as a proposal (From the project assistant, From the Waiso Desk) instead of being written behind your back.
Fix with AI
When a run fails, Fix with AI appears in the failed step’s run detail and on the error in the Run tab. It opens the chat with the failure attached — a chip like Fetch prices failed · Error — and the request Why did this step fail? Fix it. ready to send. The assistant reads the step’s inputs, logs and error from the run, explains the cause, and proposes the fix as usual.
What it never does
- It never saves, publishes or runs a flow; its only way to change one is a proposal you accept.
- It never sees variable values or secrets — only names. Inputs recorded as
•••stay hidden from it too. - Long step code is read on demand rather than sent whole, so very large flows still fit; an answer may take a moment while it looks.
- If the AI provider cannot answer, nothing on the canvas changes and your request is kept — Retry sends it again.
